Emma Stone and Zach Galifianakis for Alejandro Gonzalez Innaritu’s Birdman
Story by Jack Foley
EMMA Stone and Zach Galifianakis are among a host of new cast members to have signed up for Alejandro Gonzalez Innaritu’s Birdman.
They will be joined by Michael Keaton and Naomi Watts in the dark comedy, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The film, which marks a change of pace for Innaritu, follows a former actor, who once played an iconic superhero, as he attempts to mount a Broadway play based on a Raymond Carver short story in a bid to reclaim past glory.
However, his hopes threaten to be dashed by the play’s egotistical leading man, who threatens to ruin everything.
Keaton is the comic book movie star, Galifianakis will play the production’s conniving producer, Stone will play Keaton’s daughter (who is just out of rehab) and Watts will be an actress in the play.
Inarritu co-wrote the script with Nicolas Giacobone, Alexander Dinelaris and Armando Bo.
Stone is currently shooting The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and is also attached to Guillermo del Toro’s Crimson Peak, while Galifianakis next reprises his smash hit role as Wolf Pack member Alan in The Hangover Part III.
Watts, who previously worked with Inarritu on 21 Grams, was recently Oscar nominated for her performance in tsunami drama The Impossible and Keaton will next be seen in the Robocop remake.
Shooting on Birdman is due to commence in April.
