End of Watch and House At The End of The Street in US box office tie

End of Watch

DAVID Ayer’s cop drama End of Watch has tied with horror film House At The End Of The Street for the US box office top spot.

Both films took an estimated $13 million through Sunday, which means the overall winner won’t be announced until box office figures are finalised on Monday morning.

End of Watch stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Peña as two LAPD police officers who cross paths with a ruthless drug cartel, while House At The End of The Street is a horror thriller starring The Hunger Game‘s Jennifer Lawrence.

In spite of the split box office, admissions were once again down by as much as 25% on this time last year.

Of the other major new releases, Clint Eastwood’s return to acting, Trouble With The Curve, co-starring Amy Adams and Justin Timberlake, took an estimated $12.7 million for third spot.

But Dredd struggled to match the other newbies, grossing $6.3 million to come in behind holdovers Finding Nemo 3D, with $9.4 million, and Resident Evil: Retribution, which fell a steep 68% for $6.7 million.
