AMERICAN Horror Story‘s Evan Peters has landed the plumb role on Quicksilver in X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Director Bryan Singer made the announcement on Thursday via Twitter when he wrote: “Before he was an #Avenger, he was just a REALLY fast kid. Thrilled to say #EvanPeters is joining #XMen #DaysOfFuturePast as #Quicksilver.”

In the comic books, Quicksilver is the son of main villain Magneto.

He first appeared in Issue No. 4 of Marvel’s X-Men comic before going on to become a member of The Avengers, with his sister The Scarlet Witch.

The casting has a certain amount of buzz surrounding it given that it could lead to a rare studio crossover between Twentieth Century Fox and Disney’s Marvel Studios. Writer-director Joss Whedon recently confirmed that Quicksilver and The Scarlet Witch would be part of Avengers 2, being produced by Fox rival Marvel Studios. So, it remains to be seen whether Peters will portray the Quicksilver characters in both movies for continuity’s sake.

X-Men: Days of Future Past combines two X-Men franchises – the new one established by Matthew Vaughn’s First Class (which brings back James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender) as well as the one original set up by Singer with Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page and Shawn Ashmore on board to reprise their roles.

Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage has also signed up to play an unspecified villain.

X-Men: Days of Future Past is scheduled to hit US cinemas on July 18, 2014.

Peters has so far appeared in both American Horror Story series for creator Ryan Murphy and is set to return to the fray a third time for the forthcoming Coven.
