EWAN McGregor and Gwyneth Paltrow have joined the cast of Johnny Depp’s Mortdecai.

Based on the series of books by Kyril Bonfiglioli, the film follows the fortunes of chief protagonist Charlie Mortdecai, who is described as an unscrupulous art dealer on the track of Nazi treasure.

Depp would play the main role, who is further described as “an amoral Bertie Wooster with psychopathic tendencies”.

It is not yet known which roles McGregor and Paltrow will play but David Koepp (pf Premium Rush fame) is directing.

The film version is also reportedly based on the final Mortdecai novel, The Great Mortdecai Moustache Mystery, which was completed by satirist Craig Brown.

Depp’s participation in Mortdecai was announced earlier this month.

The actor will shortly be seen in UK cinemas in The Lone Ranger, which flopped in the US, and is currently working on the big screen adaptation of the Sondheim musical Into The Woods.
