EWAN McGregor has signed up star in Peter Capaldi’s mistaken identity rom-com Born To Be King.

The project follows a film extra (to be played by McGregor) who has an uncanny resemblance to a movie star and a Hollywood starlet who’s at war with her co-star but who falls for the extra.

Kate Hudson is currently in negotiations to play the female lead.

Capaldi – best known as Malcolm Tucker in BBC political comedy The Thick of It and the film In The Loop – wrote the screenplay.

Stephanie Denton, Indomina’s head of international sales and distribution, commented on the project: “Born To Be King exemplifies the type of high-quality product Indomina aims to bring to the international market-place.

“Peter’s screenplay seamlessly weaves the story of the film within the film. It’s an exciting, entertaining, and genuinely funny project. Ewan and Kate are the perfect on-screen pair to bring this story to life.”

The film is due to start shooting at Pinewood Studios in January 2013.

McGregor is currently in production on John Wells adaptation of August: Osage County opposite Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts.

He will soon star alongside Naomi Watts in Juan Antonio Bayona’s The Impossible.
