Expendables sequel enlists Travolta, Van Damme and more

The Expendables

Story by Jack Foley

WRITER-director-star Sylvester Stallone has been dropping hints aplenty at who has signed up for The Expendables 2.

Not content with having assembled one of the greatest casts of ageing action heroes in recent history for the original, Stallone has been busy fulfilling the rules of a sequel by looking to make the follow-up bigger and starrier too.

Having confirmed in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly that Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger will have meatier parts second time around, he now claims to have successfully added Chuck Norris and Jean-Claude Van Damme to the mix.

What’s more, Nicolas Cage and John Travolta may also be signing up for some testosterone fulled mayhem too.

Speaking to EW about Van Damme, Stallone said: “We’ll have a big showdown between me and Van Damme, which has been anticipated for a long time, so it should be a good one.”

Elaborating still further, he said: “We’ve [also] got Chuck Norris and I think Nic Cage. We’re trying to work out different scenarios. I like using people that had a moment and then maybe have fallen on some hard times and give them another shot.

“So we’re always looking for actors like Michael Biehn and Michael Pare. I like those kinds of guys. Someone did it for me and I like to see if I can do it for them.”

Stallone is due to head to Bulgaria at the end of this month to start shooting with a view to completing the film in time for an August 2012 US release.

Simon West is directing this time, though… and he’s previously worked with Nicolas Cage on action classic Con Air.
