Face/Off set for reboot at Paramount

Face Off

Story by Jack Foley

A REBOOT of John Woo’s classic action movie Face/Off is being developed at Paramount.

John Travolta and Nicolas Cage starred in the 1997 original, which followed two arch enemies exchanging each other’s identities (and faces).

The story follows FBI agent Sean Archer (Travolta) as he attempts to track down terrorist Castor Troy (Cage), the man responsible for killing his son.

When Troy is severely injured during an arrest, having planted a bomb in the city, Archer reluctantly undergoes surgery to remove his face and replace it with Troy’s in order to go undercover as the criminal in a bid to get the code needed to switch the device off.

But in a twist, Troy then awakes from his coma and forces the doctor who performed the surgery to give him Archer’s face, enabling him to pose as an FBI agent and keep the real Archer behind bars.

It is left to Archer to escape captivity and chase down Troy in a bid to get his identity back.

Fast and Furious creative Neal Moritz will produce for Paramount, while 22 Jump Street scribe Oren Uziel has been tasked with penning the script for the reboot. As yet, there is no word on casting details.

Uziel’s other credits include The Cloverfield Paradox and Paramount’s upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie.
