Fans protest over My Sister’s Keeper movie ending
Story by Jack Foley
ANGRY fans of Jodi Picoult’s acclaimed novel My Sister’s Keeper have created a Facebook group to protest against the movie’s decision to change the book’s ending.
According to the ‘Save My Sister’s Keeper’ group, the film adaptation – starring Cameron Diaz and Abigail Breslin – has been given a more “Hollywood-esque ending”, in contrast to the book which sees a major character unexpectedly killed off.
Picoult has even added her voice to the debate, stating: “Having the ending changed would certainly not have been my choice. I wrote the ending very intentionally because I wanted to leave the reader with a certain message. And changing that ending changes that message.”
She did add, however: “I am excited to see the movie and to judge it on its strengths.”
My Sister’s Keeper is on general release now and is currently fourth in the UK’s top 10 films. Read our review
