Fast & Furious 7 to get April 2015 release

Fast & Furious 5

Story by Jack Foley

FAST & Furious 7 has had its release date pushed back to April 10, 2015, following the death of one of its leading lights, Paul Walker.

Universal had put production on hold indefinitely following the crash that killed Walker on November 30, 2013. It had originally been slotted to open on July 11, 2014.

According to sources quoted by The Hollywood Reporter, Walker will appear in the film using footage that had already been shot. It is believed his character will be retired from the series in a manner that can pay respect to the enduring popularity of his character, ex-cop Brian O’Conner – although no further details on how this will be achieved were forthcoming.

Writer Chris Morgan and director James Wan, who took over the franchise from Justin Lin, have been working hard on revising the story to accommodate the real-life tragedy.

News of the new release date was broken by Walker’s co-star and close friend, Vin Diesel, who posted on his Facebook account on Sunday night: “The last scene we filmed together…There was a unique sense of completion, of pride we shared… in the film we were now completing… the magic captured… and, in just how far we’ve come… Fast and Furious 7 will be released… April 10, 2015! P.s. He’d want you to know first…”
