Story by Jack Foley

THE first image has been released from Andrea Arnold’s American Honey, which marks the British director’s first film made in America.

The photo features newcomer Sasha Lane.

American Honey has just been revealed as one of the films playing in competition at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

The story follows Star (played by Lane), a teenage girl from a troubled home, who runs away with a travelling sales crew that drives across the American mid-west selling magazine subscriptions door to door.

Finding her feet in this gang of teenagers, one of whom is Jake (Shia LaBeouf), she soon gets into the group’s lifestyle of hard partying, law-bending and young love.

In addition to Lane and LaBeouf, the film stars Riley Keough and a host of young actors making their on-screen debuts.

The film was written and directed by Andrea Arnold, whose previous credits include Red Road and Fish Tank, both of which won the Cannes Jury Prize.

The 2016 edition of the Cannes International Film Festival runs from May 11 to 22, 2016.
