Frozen becomes the No.1 animated film of all-time

Story by Jack Foley

DISNEY’S Oscar-winning Frozen has officially become the highest grossing animated film of all time.

The film has earned $398.4 million in the US alone and $674 million internationally for a total global haul of $1.072 billion, thereby surpassing the $1.063 billion earned by fellow Disney/Pixar title Toy Story 3.

In doing so, it has also now claimed the tenth spot on the list of the biggest global blockbusters and has The Dark Knight Rises in its sights.

It is also the first billion dollar title from Disney Animation Studios, as well as the seventh from Disney.

Frozen reached the milestone thanks to a strong run in Japan, the last territory it opened in, where it has so far grossed over $50 million.

The box office success comes on top of its award winning hot streak. In addition to claiming Golden Globes, BAFTAs and Annies, the film, directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, claimed the best animated film Oscar at this year’s Academy Awards.
