Gary Oldman joins Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
Story by Jack Foley
GARY Oldman is the latest high profile name to be added to Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, the keenly anticipated sequel to Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
As yet, it is unclear what role the British actor has given the confusion surrounding his and co-star Jason Clarke’s involvement. Both are attached but it is unclear which characters they will portray, particularly as Fox is keeping story details under wraps at this stage.
According to various sources quoted by The Hollywood Reporter, the roles would be either a militaristic leader of the surviving humans or a more intellectual and diplomatic leader. Fox had no comment.
What is known is that the sequel, to be directed by Matt (Cloverfield) Reeves, is set 15 years after the events of the hit 2011 film.
Part of the story will focus on the human scientists who are struggling to survive alone in San Francisco, while another will follow the struggle of intelligent ape Caesar, played by a returning Andy Serkis, to maintain dominance over his kingdom.
Kodi Smit-McPhee, of Let Me In and The Road fame, has also joined the cast.
Oldman most recently completed shooting the Robocop remake.
