George Clooney is The American

GEORGE Clooney has started to film The American, a thriller, which marks the second film from Control‘s Anton Corbijn.
Based on the 2005 novel A Very Private Gentleman by Martin Booth, the film will find Clooney playing an ageing weapons manufacturer who is posing as a butterfly painter in the Italian Appenines until his past comes back to haunt him.
According to a press statement released by Focus Features, cameras have started to roll in Italy, based on a screenplay by Rowan Joffe (son of Roland).
The cast also includes Bruce Altman, who was recently seen in Bride Wars, Thekla Reuten, from In Bruges, and Italian stars Paolo Bonacelli and Violante Placido.
