George Clooney to direct military drama The Yankee Comandante

GEORGE Clooney is to direct the Cuban military dramaThe Yankee Comandante.

Based on an article in New Yorker, the film will follow the true story of William Alexander Morgan, an American who assisted Fidel Castro and other Cuban rebels overthrow the reigning Fulgencio Batista in Cuba.

According to the article, Morgan became the only foreigner other than Che Guevara to reach the title of Comandante in Cuba, although his actions also caught the eye of renowned FBI director J. Edgar Hoover.

Clooney is working up the project as a new directing vehicle with long-time partner Grant Heslov, who will co-produce via their Smokehouse production company.

However, it won’t happen anytime soon.

Clooney is already attached to direct The Monuments Men, an adaptation of the World War II Nazi art heist book and is also due to star alongside Sandra Bullock in Alfonso Cuaron’s 3D space drama Gravity.
