Gillian Anderson in talks for Justin Chadwick’s Official Secrets

GILLIAN Anderson is in negotiations to join the all-star cast of Justin Chadwick’s political thriller Official Secrets.

If successful, she will play the role of MI6 agent Jacqueline Jones, and line up alongside a cast that also includes Paul Bettany, Natalie Dormer, Martin Freeman, Academy Award winner Sir Anthony Hopkins and Harrison Ford. French actor Tahar Rahim (A Prophet) is also circling the project.

In the run up to the 2003 invasion of Iraq, Katharine Gun (Dormer), a young British intelligence officer reveals a secret illegal NSA spy operation against the UN Security Council designed to ensure passage of a resolution for war to Martin Bright (Bettany) a reporter at the British newspaper, The London Observer.

Katharine’s arrest following the leak makes headlines around the world. In an attempt to gain the evidence to free Katharine, Martin unearths the shocking plot which puts both Katharine and Martin’s lives in great jeopardy.

Chadwick (of Mandela: The Long Walk To Freedom fame) is directing the true story based on the best-selling book The Spy Who Tried To Stop A War: Katherine Gun and The Secret Plot to Sanction the Iraq Invasion. The screenplay is written by Sara and Gregory Bernstein.

The film is slated to begin principal photography in May 2016 in the UK.

Gillian Anderson stars in Fox’s reboot of the widely popular sci-fi series The X-Files. Over 50 million viewers worldwide tuned in to see the premiere episode. A

nderson previously starred in Lifetime Network’s War and Peace, as well as BBC’s The Fall (pictured) and NBC’s Hannibal.

The Golden Globe winning actress next stars in the 2016 release of Gurinder Chadha’s Viceroy’s House with Michael Gambon and Hugh Bonneville.
