Gladiator sequel in the works with Ridley Scott

Story by Jack Foley

RIDLEY Scott is reportedly returning to the world of Gladiator.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Oscar-winning British filmmaker and his Scott Free Productions are moving forward on a follow-up to his best picture Oscar winner. Peter Craig, the writer behind Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Parts 1 & 2, who is currently working on Tom Cruise’s Top Gun sequel, Maverick, will pen the screenplay.

The story would follow Lucius (the son of Lucilla and nephew of Joaquin Phoenix’s Commodus).

In the 2000 movie, Russell Crowe’s Maximus saved the boy from his uncle.

At this stage, the project is only in early development, with Paramount currently in negotiations to land the film.

The original film won five Oscars and pulled in $460 million at the global box office.

Scott, who would return to the director’s chair for the Gladiator sequel, last helmed the Getty kidnapping movie All The Money in the World.

He is no stranger to revisiting past classics from his own back catalogue, having also revisited the Alien franchise with his prequels Prometheus and Alien Covenant.
