CHARACTERS from Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy movie are to appear in the third Avengers film, according to actor Vin Diesel.

The revelation was made by the Fast & Furious star during a Facebook Live video on Friday, although a spokesman for Disney did not back them up with any official announcement.

However, commenting on the mash-up between Guardians and Avengers, Diesel said he found the prospect “incredibly exciting”.

Diesel voiced the talking tree Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy and is expected to appear in Avengers: Infinity War alongside fellow cast members Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana and Bradley Cooper.

Avengers: Infinity War is expected to include Marvel characters from across 18 films when it is released in cinemas in May 2018.

Prior to that, James Gunn’s keenly-anticipated sequel to Guardians, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be hitting cinemas next May (2017), when it will also bring back original ensemble cast members Michael Rooker, Glenn Close and Karen Gillan.

Pom Klementieff has also joined the cast as alien hero Mantis, along with Kurt Russell, Sylvester Stallone and Sharon Stone.

When the film wrapped in June, leading man Pratt said: “This is going to be the greatest spectacle film of all time.”

Guardians of the Galaxy was considered to be one of Marvel’s riskiest ventures prior to its release. But it became a critical darling and a box office smash, grossing $771m (£540m) at the worldwide box office.
