Marvel Studios made the announcement that principal photography is underway as well as confirming the arrival of several new cast members, including Kurt Russell.

He will be joined by Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan and Pom Klementieff.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 will continue the adventures of Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill and his team of rag-tag mercenaries as they seek to unravel the mystery of Quill’s true parentage.

In addition to Pratt, the sequel will see Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan and Sean Gunn all reprising their roles from the original, which grossed over $770 million world-wide.

Confirming Russell’s casting via his own Facebook page, writer-director James Gunn said: “My favourite movie as a small child was The Strongest Man in the World, so I’m glad to announce that, yes, Kurt Russell has joined our cast and, yes, he is more awesome a dude than I ever could have imagined.”
