Guillermo Del Toro/Emma Watson Beauty & The Beast moves forward

Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows Part 2

THE long touted Guillermo Del Toro/Emma Watson re-imagining of Beauty & The Beast seems to be moving forward.

According to an update on The Hollywood Reporter, Del Toro is now firmly attached to direct and Watson is ‘attached’ to star, while Andrew Davies has now been hired to write the script.

The project was initially intended to be an adaptation of the novel Beauty: A Re-telling of the Story of the Beauty and the Beast by Robin McKinley.

But the report suggests that this has evolved since, although details remain sketchy at best.

A further question still remains surrounding Del Toro’s availability and schedule as the filmmaker has a tendency to take on many projects at a time.

He is currently shooting Pacific Rim in Toronto, is a consultant for DreamWorks Animation and is directing Trollhunters for the studio, and is also developing a Haunted Mansion movie at Disney as well as being attached to direct both a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and a Frankenstein project at Universal.

Nevertheless, Warner Bros is confident of progress with all attached and Davies, who penned last year’s The Three Musketeers, is now getting to work on the script.

News of the development follows last week’s announcement that Vincent Cassel has been signed up for a rival Beauty & The Beast project being directed by Christophe Gans in the French language. Find out more
