Guy Pearce poised to join Iron Man 3

Lockout

Story by Jack Foley

GUY Pearce is in final talks to join Iron Man 3.

According to trade publication Variety, the actor will play the geneticist Aldrich Killian.

Shane Black is directing the film for Marvel Studios and Disney, which brings back Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man, along with Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle and Scarlett Johansson.

Sir Ben Kingsley is set to play the villain.

According to the report, the plot for the third instalment will borrow elements from Warren Ellis’ six-issue Iron Man: Extremis comic books, which was also a heavy influence on the first Iron Man movie directed by Jon Favreau.

It will therefore focus on the spread of a virus through nanotechnology, which has been created by Killian.

Shooting on the movie is due to begin in May with a view for release on May 3, 2013.

Tony Stark and Iron Man can currently be seen in Joss Whedon’s Avengers Assemble, which hits UK cinemas on April 20.

Pearce most recently headlined the actioner Lockout, which hit cinemas this weekend in the UK.

He’ll next be seen in Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, which is out on June 1, and he also co-stars alongside Shia LaBeouf and Tom Hardy in John Hillcoat’s Lawless, which will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.
