HALLE Berry has joined the cast of Roland Emmerich’s latest sci-fi movie Moonfall.

Berry joins the previously announced Josh Gad in the thriller that Emmerich co-wrote with 2012 co-writers Harald Kloser and Spenser Cohen. He is also directing.

Moonfall begins when the moon is knocked from its orbit by a mysterious force and is placed on a collision course with Earth.

It means life as we know it hangs in the balance and with just weeks to go before impact, a ragtag team is sent on a seemingly impossible mission to land on the lunar surface and save humanity.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Berry will play an astronaut-turned-NASA administrator whose previous mission holds a clue to the catastrophe.

Gad, meanwhile, is an eccentric genius that deduces that the moon has fallen out of its orbit.

Emmerich made a name for himself destroying Earth’s landmarks with signature with movies such as Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow.

His last film was the WWII epic Midway, which was also picked up by Lionsgate.

Moonfall is looking to begin production this autumn (2020).
