Hank Azaria and Jayma Mays join Smurfs movie
Story by Jack Foley
HANK Azaria is to provide the voice of Gargamel in Sony’s new Smurf movie, while Glee star Jayma Mays has landed the live action female lead.
The film, a live-action/animated hybrid that’s being directed by Raja (Beverley Hills Chihuahua) Gosnell, is currently in the process of filling out all of its main roles.
Mays will play the pregnant wife of the already cast Neil Patrick Harris, the film’s other human lead, according to the Hollywood Reporter, while Azaria – who is no stranger to voice work following his multi-character stints on The Simpsons – will voice the Smurfs’ sworn enemy.
They join a cast that also includes Jonathan Winters, Alan Cumming, George Lopez and pop singer Perry, who is in talks to voice Smurfette.
Mays has shot to prominence as part of the Glee TV phenomenon, playing hopelessly-in-love guidance counselor Emma Pillsbury. Her film credits include Paul Blart: Mall Cop.
