Happy as Lazzaro - Trailer

Happy as Lazzaro

HAPPY As Lazzaro will open nationwide on April 5, 2019 following its UK premiere at last year’s London Film Festival. It received its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in 2018, where it won Best Screenplay.

Following sold out screenings at Glasgow Film Festival, Happy As Lazzaro will receive an additional preview screening at BFI Southbank on 8 March, in line with International Women’s Day

The cast includes newcomers Adriano Tardiolo and Luca Chikovani alongside Agnese Graziani (The Wonders) and Alba Rohrwacher (Hungry Hearts, I Am Love).

The film is a tale of a meeting between Lazzaro (Adriano Tardiolo), a young peasant so good that he is often mistaken for simple-minded, and Tancredi (Luca Chikovani), a young nobleman cursed by his imagination. Life in their isolated pastoral village Inviolata is dominated by the terrible Marchesa Alfonsina de Luna, the queen of cigarettes.

A loyal bond is sealed when Tancredi asks Lazzaro to help him orchestrate his own kidnapping. This strange and improbable alliance is a revelation for Lazzaro. A friendship so precious that it will travel in time and transport Lazzaro in search of Tancredi.

His first time in the big city, Lazzaro is like a fragment of the past lost in the modern world.
