EVANNA Lynch has landed her first post-Harry Potter role alongside Gary Oldman in indie crime thriller Monster Butler.

The young actress, best known for playing Luna Lovegood in the Harry Potter films, also joins Malcolm McDowell, Dominic Monaghan, and Joanne Whalley.

The film chronicles the true story of Roy Fontaine, aka Archibald Hall (McDowell), a bisexual jewel thief turned conman and serial killer. It will follow his personal descent into darkness and eventual capture.

Lynch will play Fiona Carrick-Smith, a character described by The Hollywood Reporter as someone who is intrigued by her upper-class family’s new and seemingly all-knowing butler, eventually acting on her desires with him and jeopardising her impending marriage.

The casting marks a major step towards life in the acting profession post-Potter given Lynch’s unusual entry into the profession.

A devoted fan of the Harry Potter books, she began a pen-pal correspondence with author J.K. Rowling at the age of 11 that subsequentlt led her to audition for the role of Lovegood at the age of 14.

She eventually saw off thousands of other hopefuls to land the role, which according to the actress is the one she had been seeking ever since becoming a fan of the novels.

Indeed, her work in the film garnered her a Young Artist Awards nomination for best performance in a feature film.

Shooting on Monster Butler is due to begin in Scotland this week.
