Harry Potter spin-off to become movie trilogy

Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows Part 2

Story by Jack Foley

JK Rowling’s Harry Potter spin-off is to be turned into a film trilogy.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them follows a “magizoologist” named Newt Scamander, who is the author of a guide to magical creatures.

The action takes place in New York and is designed as an “extension” of Harry Potter’s “wizarding world”, according to Rowling.

The book was first published in 2001 but Warner Bros has been attempting to persuade Rowling ever since to adapt it for the big screen. She has now agreed with The New York Times reporting last week that a trilogy of films based on the book is now in the works.

The project will be produced by Harry Potter regular David Heyman, whose recent successes include the Oscar-winning Gravity.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was written between the publication of the fourth and the fifth books in the Harry Potter series and is set 70 years before Harry is first introduced.
