Harry Potter stars drenched at Half-Blood Prince premiere

Harry Potter & The Half-Blood Prince

Story by Jack Foley

THE cast of Harry Potter were drenched by rain and hail as they attended the world premiere of the wizard’s latest film in London’s Leicester Square on Tuesday (July 7, 2009).

Cast members including Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson were drenched at the event, which attracted thousands of eager Potter fans keen to catch a glimpse of the stars of sixth movie, The Half-Blood Prince.

In spite of the deluge, however, the stars remained outside signing autographs and chatting to fans under umbrellas as they bid to stay dry and keep the crowds entertained.

Watson, who plays Hermione Grainger in the films, even suffered a moment of embarrassment when she accidentally flashed her knickers while hoisting her dress to avoid being soaked further.

But Radcliffe and co-star Rupert Grint were also made to suffer by the notorious British weather as they arrived on the red carpet.

Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince opens in UK cinemas on Wednesday, July 15, and has so far earned positive reviews. Many critics have hailed the more mature direction of the movie, as well as the decision to include some lighter elements.

The film, once again directed by David Yates, is notable for ending with the death of a key character.

In addition to the child stars of the franchise, the star-studded London premiere was attended by the likes of Alan Rickman, Helena Bonham Carter and Robbie Coltrane, as well as author JK Rowling.

Celebrity guests included Myleene Klass, singer Jamelia, Jamie and Jools Oliver with two of their daughters, Poppy and Daisy and Gordon Ramsay and wife Tana with their three children. Guy Ritchie and his son Rocco also attended.

Commenting on the plucky spirit of the 3,000-strong crowd, Watson said: “It’s just so fantastic that people have been so dedicated to come down and see us all. My message to the fans is thank you so much I love you all.”
