Harry Styles and Aneurin Barnard offered parts in Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk movie

One Direction: This Is Us

ONE Direction singer Harry Styles and The White Queen star Aneurin Barnard have reportedly been offered parts in Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk movie.

News of the casting first appeared in Hollywood trade magazines Variety, Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter, with most of the subsequent media attention focused on Styles’ acting debut.

According to Deadline, the 22-year-old singer’s role is “not believed to be a lead” – although as is often the case with any Norton project, all plot and cast details are being kept closely guarded.

What is known is that Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh and Tom Hardy have all been signed up to star in the director’s take on the events of the World War II evacuation of Dunkirk in the late spring of 1940 – although, again, none of that trio is expected to be a lead.

Rather, Nolan – along with his partner Emma Thomas has been undertaking extensive cast searches for the film and is keen to find relative newcomers.

As such, newcomer Fionn Whitehead is also being tipped to take the lead role, having made a name for himself as part of the National Youth Theatre.

Barnard, meanwhile, shot to prominence playing King Richard in the BBC mini-series The White Queen and also impressed in We’ll Take Manhattan.

Another name in the mix is Jack Lowden, who recently appeared in the BBC’s acclaimed adaptation of War and Peace.

Warner Bros are yet to comment on the film, including on whether or not Styles will be involved.
