Hasbro confirms four more Transformers movies

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

THERE will be at least four more Transformers, according to Hasbro, the American toymakers behind the successful movie franchise.

The revelation was made by Stephen J Davis, chief content office for Hasbro, during a keynote session at Mipjunior, the annual convention oriented towards children’s TV that takes place in Cannes prior to its parent event, Mipcom (International Market of Communications Programmes).

Davis said: “We just finished … an incredible experience. We decided that we wanted to plot out the next 10 years of the Transformers franchise, so we got together in a room over a three-month period of time.”

The think tank comprised nine writers in total, who Davis credited with being “the most creative writers he had ever worked with”.

They were shepherded by Akiva Goldsman, who won an Academy award for A Beautiful Mind, and included the writer of Amazing Spider-Man 2.

“They plotted out the next 10 years of Transformers,” continued Davis. “Similarly, we are doing the same in television and in digital. So stay tuned, Transformers 5 is on its way, and 6 and 7 and 8.”

Davis’s comments added more detail to the announcement earlier this year by Transformers producing studio Paramount that an “expansion” of the Transformers universe was under way, with screenwriter Goldsman heading a team of writers to develop ideas for spin-offs and sequels.

It is not yet known, however, whether Michael Bay – who directed the first four films in the franchise – will return to direct any future instalments. He recently posted on his own Twitter account that no plans were in place for him to return.

However, don’t bet against him coming back for more. His most recent offering, Age of Extinction, was one of a few films to hit $1 billion globally in 2014, even though former lead actor Shia LaBeouf had been replaced by Mark Wahlberg.
