Helena Bonham Carter in talks for The Lone Ranger

The King's Speech

Story by Jack Foley

HELENA Bonham Carter is in talks to join the cast of Johnny Depp’s The Lone Ranger.

She could be joined by Dwight Yoakam and Barry Pepper, who also look set to join Disney and Gore Verbinski’s growing cast.

The Lone Ranger finds Depp playing Tonto alongside Arnie Hammer’s lone ranger.

The story, which will see Depp’s character taking on a much more prominent role, follows a Texas Ranger (Hammer) who is left for dead but who dons the masked identity known as the Lone Langer.

If the deal is completed successfully, Carter will play a brothel madam who ‘deals with gentlemen and scoundrels’, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Yoakam is being lined up for the role of Butch Cavendish, the leader of the gang that attacks the ranger and leaves him for dead, and Pepper, who was recently Emmy-nominated for his turn as Bobby Kennedy in The Kennedys, will play a military officer.

The cast already includes Tom Wilkinson, who plays a railroad tycoon with dubious intentions.

Shooting is scheduled to begin in mid-October on location in Texas and New Mexico.
