Helena Bonham Carter to play Fairy Godmother in Disney's Cinderella

The King's Speech

Story by Jack Foley

HELENA Bonham Carter is to play the fairy godmother in Disney’s live-action version of Cinderella.

Directed by Kenneth Branagh, the film sees Lily James in the title role, Cate Blanchett as the wicked stepmother and Game of Thrones‘ Richard Madden as the prince.

Sophie McShera (Downton Abbey) and Holliday Granger (The Borgias) are playing the stepsisters.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the fairy godmother is to be given more screent-time in this incarnation of the classic fairytale. The character will reportedly be disguised as an old beggar who watches over Cinderella before revealing herself as the magical being she truly is.

Shooting on the fantasy is scheduled to begin in London in the autumn.

Bonham Carter will shortly be seen reuniting with Johny Depp for The Lone Ranger and will also be seen on TV screens this summer playing Elizabeth Taylor in one-off BBC4 drama Burton & Taylor alongside Dominic West.
