Henry Cavill is Zack Snyder's Superman

Henry Cavill

Story by Jack Foley

HENRY Cavill, best known for playing Charles Brandon in TV series The Tudors, has been cast as Superman in the Zack Snyder directed reboot.

The appointment was confirmed by Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures in a statement on Saturday, January 30.

The 27-year-old actor may be a surprise choice but was reportedly on the shortlist for Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns when it was initially going to be directed by McG.

Singer went with Brandon Routh instead.

But Snyder, best known for films such as 300 and Watchmen, is delighted to have landed Cahill.

He said in a statement: “In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time, and I am honoured to be a part of his return to the big screen.

“I also join Warner Bros., Legendary and the producers in saying how excited we are about the casting of Henry. He is the perfect choice to don the cape and ‘S’ shield.”

Prior to filling that cape, however, Cavill will be flexing his big screen credentials as the Greek warrior Theseus in director Tarsem Singh’s action picture Immortals.

He has also been cast opposite Bruce Willis and Sigourney Weaver in the thriller The Cold Light of Day.
