High School Musical 3: Senior Year - Corbin Bleu and Ashley Tisdale interview

High School Musical 3 stars in London

Interview by Rob Carnevale

CORBIN Bleu and Ashley Tisdale talk about the appeal of High School Musical, reflect on some of their favourite memories of the past three movies and discuss how they’re coping with the fame it has brought them both.

Q. Senior prom figures highly in the movie, so do you have any memories of your own senior proms?
Ashley Tisdale: I actually went to both my proms, junior and senior year, and junior year I went with pink, it was full of tulle, and it stood up by itself. I shouldn’t have worn it from the start because I couldn’t dance in it, nobody could move around me… there was so much dress. So, senior year I went with a slimmer fitting dress, but I had so much fun at both proms.

Q. What was your expectation when you embarked on the first film, and when did you realise you had a phenomenon on your hands?
Ashley Tisdale: For me, it would have to have been the concert in South America. We performed for, I think, 75,000 people in Brazil and that was really amazing – seeing how much the fans loved the music. They were singing in English and they’d struggled to get there, it was just heart-warming.

Corbin Bleu: Just these last two weeks alone, touring Europe, I’ve had so many once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Kenny and I got a chance to go to a live flamenco performance. Several of us had an opportunity to speak with Michael Jackson on the phone. When I’m on my deathbed, and somebody asks me what have been the most incredible parts of my life, I’d look back and say when I was part of High School Musical.

Q. How are you dealing with the fame and fortune it has brought you?
Corbin Bleu: Success is a beautiful thing, it’s very special and very exciting. It’s a lot of responsibility. I think for the most part we’re all excited to be able to work. This is my job, this is what I do, I love being able to get up on stage and perform, and it’s just great to be able to see the fans.

Ashley Tisdale: High School Musical has brought us all a lot of opportunities and we are so lucky. For me, I got to do an album, and I’m recording my second album right now. I just did a feature film called They Came From Upstairs, out next January, an action-comedy which is the complete opposite to High School Musical. It has aliens in it too!
