Hitchcock's Rebecca to get remake

Story by Jack Foley

ALFRED Hitchcock’s classic mystery Rebecca is being given the remake treatment.

DreamWorks and Working Title Films have announced the project, which is being written by Eastern Promises scribe Steven Knight.

According to Variety, Knight intends to go back to the original book by Daphne DuMaurier.

Rebecca follows a naive young woman who marries a rich widower and settles in his gigantic mansion, only to find that the memory of the first wife maintains a grip on her husband and the servants.

In addition to Eastern Promises, Knight has also penned the scripts for Stephen Frears’ Dirty Pretty Things and has recently adapted Dan Brown’s best-selling novel The Lost Symbol for Sony.

He is also currently preparing to make his directorial debut with the thriller Hummingbird, which will star Jason Statham.
