How To Lose Friends & Alienate People receives UK premiere
Story by Jack Foley
SIMON Pegg and Gillian Anderson attracted plenty of cheers when they attended the UK premiere of their new film, How To Lose Friends & Alienate People at London’s Leicester Square on Wednesday, September 24 (2008).
The film is based on the memoirs of British writer Toby Young, which documented his failed attempt to fit in at a New York-based magazine. It co-stars Jeff Bridges, Kirsten Dunst, Danny Huston and Megan Fox. It’s directed by Bob Weide, of Curb Your Enthusiasm fame.
Pegg, who earlier attended a press conference and spoke of his delight at appearing in the film alongside such an established cast, spent some time chatting to fans and signing autographs.
And he confirmed to members of the press that shooting the film had been a “thrill from start to finish”, adding that one particular highlight was having his trailer on Times Square.
Speaking earlier in the day, he also heaped praise upon screenwriter Peter Straughan, who had undertaken the difficult task of adapting Young’s memoirs into a screenplay.
“He did a great job of adapting a book which doesn’t necessarily lend itself to a screen version,” Pegg commented.
“The book is a series of very funny anecdotes, knitted together with musings on meritocracy. On the page, that whole journey that Sidney makes, from being objectionable to perhaps someone with some humility, was very much there, so I have to thank Peter for that.”
Toby Young himself also attended the London premiere, and spent time chatting to fans and hanging out with Pegg.
The movie will be released in UK cinemas on October 3, 2008.
