HUGH Grant has joined the cast of Guy Ritchie’s The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the British actor has signed up for a supporting role as the head of British Naval Intelligence alongside Man of Steel actor Henry Cavill, who stepped in to replace Tom Cruise in May, and The Lone Ranger star Armie Hammer.

The film, which has weathered a tough development process, follows special agents Napoleon Solo (Cavill) and Illya Kullyakin (Hammer) as they work for the mysterious United Network Command for Law Enforcement (U.N.C.L.E.).

Beyond that, plot details are thin on the ground – but the film is based on the classic 1960s TV series.

Alicia Vikander is the female lead, while the ensemble also includes Elizabeth Debicki.

Shooting is due to commence in September from a script co-written by Ritchie and Sherlock Holmes collaborator Lionel Wigram.

Grant most recently appeared in Cloud Atlas and voiced The Pirates! In An Adventure With Scientists.
