Hugh Jackman in talks to play Blackbeard in Pan

Story by Jack Foley

HUGH Jackman is reportedly being lined up to play the pirate Blackbeard in Peter Pan origin film Pan.

The actor is being viewed as a potential replacement for first choice Javier Bardem, who has now passed on the role altogether.

Pan is being directed by Joe Wright from a script by Jason Fuchs and revolves around an orphan who is taken to the magical world of Neverland where he becomes a hero to the natives and leads a revolt against the evil pirates.

According to Variety, Blackbeard would be the film’s main villain ahead of Captain Hook, who would serve as Pan’s close ally before turning bad.

The report states that Ryan Gosling was first choice for Hook but has also passed on the project.

Warner Bros is expected to hold an open casting session to find their Pan, as well as for the role of Tiger Lily.

Jackman has begun to step towards darker roles, as evidenced by his edgy turn in the crime thriller Prisoners (pictured) this year. He is currently filming Chappie for Elysium director Neill Blomkamp.
