Hugh Jackman teases final Wolverine villains and Old Man Logan plot

The Wolverine

Story by Jack Foley

HUGH Jackman has been teasing some possibilities for his final solo outing as Wolverine.

Speaking on a Sydney Confidential podcast, the actor let slip some of the more popular suggestions that have emerged from fans since he put out a call for ideas for the final Wolverine adventure, which is currently scheduled for a 2017 release.

Two ideas, in particular, kept re-appearing. Most popular, were “lots of calls for Victor Creed to come back”, aka Sabretooth, who remains Wolverine’s arch-nemesis in the comic book mythology but who has previously been poorly served in the movies.

The character only briefly appeared in 2000’s X-Men (when played by Tyler Mane), but despite being used more in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine (and played by Liev Schreiber), fans felt he was wasted.

The second most popular suggestion among fans revolved around the words “berserker rage”, which according to Jackman “came up a lot”.

“If you know Wolverine, you’ll understand,” he added.

For those who don’t know, the term refers to something that hasn’t yet happened in any of the movie versions of the character. It relates to a moment in which the animalistic side of Wolverine takes over in the heat of the moment, whereby he is seen as a savage, violent and mindless creature who is as dangerous to friends as foes.

Could this mean that Sabretooth will feature and possibly be on the wrong end of a berserker rage meltdown?

The third (and rumoured to be final) standalone movie is rumoured to be based on the comic book Old Man Logan storyline, which finds an aged version of the character fighting his way across a post-apocalyptic world ruled by super-villains. Suitably excited?

Wolverine will next be seen in X-Men: Apocalypse, which is due for release next summer.
