Hugh Laurie set to play Robocop villain

House, final episode

Story by Jack Foley

HUGH Laurie could be about to land his first prominent role post House.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor is in talks to play the villain in MGM and Sony’s remake of the classic 1987 sci-fi action movie Robocop.

Jose (Elite Squad) Padilha is directing the film, which sees Joel Kinnaman (of TV’s The Killing) as a cop named Alex Murphy who is brought back from the brink of death and turned into a cyborg police officer.

The star-studded reboot has already landed Gary Oldman as Murphy/Robocop’s scientist-creator and Samuel L. Jackson as a media mogul.

If talks are concluded successfully, Laurie would play the ultra-rich, and coincidentally evil, CEO of Omnicorp, the company that makes Robocop.

Laurie recently completed his eighth and final year as grumpy but brilliant doc Gregory House, a show which saw him gain five Emmy nominations.
