The Hunger Games

Story by Jack Foley

THE second film in the Hunger Games franchise has already been given a 2013 release date.

Catching Fire is due to hit US cinemas on November 22, 2013 – following in the wake of the original, which is currently slated for a March 2012 release in the UK.

Based on Suzanne Collins’ blockbuster young adult book trilogy, Hunger Games is expected to become another monster-sized movie franchise and has already attracted a sizeable cast to the original.

Jennifer Lawrence is the lead in Gary Ross first film, which also stars Josh Hutcherson, Donald Sutherland, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks and Lenny Kravitz.

Commenting on the studio’s decision to press ahead with the sequel even before the first film is released Joe Drake, president of Lionsgate co-COO and Motion Picture Group, said: “The magical thing about the Hunger Games trilogy is that the books have such a vastly broad appeal.

“The stories truly offer something for everyone, and the period around the Thanksgiving weekend is such an opportunity for families and friends to make an event of going to the movies.”
