Idris Elba in talks for The Gunman
Story by Jack Foley
IDRIS Elba is in talks to join Sean Penn and Javier Bardem in action thriller The Gunman.
Being produced by Joel Silver (among others), the film follows an international operative (played by Penn) who is betrayed by the organization he works for, forcing him into a game of cat-and-mouse across Europe.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Elba will play a mysterious operative named Dupont.
Peter Travis wrote the screenplay, which is adapted from Jean-Patrick Manchette’s novel, and Pierre Morel is directing.
The film is due to commence shooting in Barcelona and other European locales later this month.
The producers hope that they could have a potential franchise on their hands.
Elba will next be seen starring alongside monsters and mechas in Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim.
He is also reprising the role of Heimdall in Thor: The Dark World and portrays Nelson Mandela in Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom – and that’s not forgetting the third series of Luther, which is due to return to the BBC soon.
