In doing so, it broke a number of records such as scoring the biggest weekend ever in Argentina, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Vietnam, Taiwan, Philippines, Malaysia and Singapore.
By comparison, The Avengers, which featured Iron Man among its superhero ensemble, took $185.1 million internationally.
Iron Man 3 teams Robert Downey Jr. with franchise newcomer, director Shane Black, who previously worked with the actor on critical hit Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
It serves as both an unofficial sequel to The Avengers (picking up in the aftermath of that movie’s events) as well as a sequel to Iron Man 2.
The film also shot to the top of the UK box office on its opening weekend.
