Story by Jack Foley

DREW Pearce, one of the co-writers of Iron Man 3, is to pen the next installment in the Mission: Impossible franchise.

Tom Cruise will once again star in and produce Mi5, which is expected to commence production this autumn after the actor finishes filming Guy Ritchie’s The Man From U.N.C.L.E..

Christopher McQuarrie is still in discussions to direct the film, which would reunite him with Cruise following successful collaborations on Jack Reacher and Valkyrie.

J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot will produce, while Skydance Productions, which served as co-financiers and executive producers of the fourth installment, will work closely with the team in the development and production process.

Plot details are being kept under wraps.

Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol earned nearly $700 million worldwide and marked Cruise’s highest-grossing film to date. In total, the franchise has earned more than $2 billion world-wide.

Pearce is also working on Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming Pacific Rim and is currently working on an original spec that will serve as his directorial debut.
