Is Ben Affleck in the frame for Justice League movie?

The Town

Story by Jack Foley

BEN Affleck has reportedly been approached to possibly direct a Justice League movie that could potentially bring Batman and Superman together in the same film.

According to Variety, the actor-director has been called to discuss the possibility of directing the film with Warner Bros, who are now actively seeking a safe pair of hands now that Christopher Nolan has declared himself out of the frame.

The report states that discussions are at a preliminary stage and is highly speculative at present, especially given the number of other commitments Affleck has signed himself up to.

But he is believed to be the only candidate to have been sent Will Beall’s Justice League script, which has been finished since last summer.

And Warner Bros are keen to get going on a Justice League movie having seen the success of rival comic book publisher Marvel’s Avengers movie.

Ironically, the studio is eyeing a potential release in summer 2015, which could put it up against Marvel’s Avengers 2, which only yesterday confirmed that Joss Whedon is returning to write and direct. “Find out more”:

The Justice League movie is expected to bring together Batman and Superman as well as potentially the Green Lantern, Wonder Woman and The Flash.

As yet, DC Entertainment, Warner Bros. and Affleck’s camp have declined to comment.

But the report also notes that Affleck is extremely in-demand following back-to-back directing successes with Gone Baby Gone and The Town.

His latest film, Argo, has also started to generate early Oscar buzz and is due to be at the Toronto Film Festival.

As well as directing and appearing in Argo, Affleck has also recently wrapped with Terrence Malick on To The Wonder and is also considering an offer to star in Greg Berlanti’s long-gestating sci-fi drama Replay.

He’s also attempting to bring an adaptation of Stephen King’s The Stand to the big screen, as a potential two-part picture, and is developing a movie about Boston crime boss Whitey Bulger with Matt Damon.
