Iwan Rheon and Tom Cullen to star in Barbarians

Iwan Rheon, Game of Thrones

Story by Jack Foley

PRODUCTION has started on dramatic thriller Barbarians, a new feature film starring Game of Thrones legend Iwan Rheon and Downton Abbey star Tom Cullen.

From Samuel Marshall Productions (Honest Thief, Death of Me, Untouchable), Barbarians was written by Charlie Dorfman who will also direct, in what will be his feature debut. Shooting is taking place in Surrey.

The story centers around a civilised dinner party in a spectacular country house that sees four friends – Lucas (Cullen), Adam (Rheon), Chloe (newcomer Ines Spiridonov) and Eva (Catalina Sandino Moreno, Maria Full of Grace, TV hit series The Affair) – come together for a birthday celebration.

However, as the night progresses secrets and lies force themselves into the light, polite pretensions disappear, and unexpected and unsettling events begin to unfold around them. Will their friendships stand the test? Can they survive the night? Or will their secrets eventually catch up with them?

In addition to the principal four, central roles have also gone to Conor Swindells (Sex Education), Will Kemp (TV series Reign) and Tommy McDonnell (Starred Up, The Works).

Writer-director Dorfman commented: “Barbarians is a unique thriller, full of tension and intensity that ratchets up as the story develops and human nature gets laid bare in its rawest form. I’m so excited to be working with such a talented cast and crew to bring ‘Barbarians’ to life.”

Executive Producer David Gilbery added: “MFC are thrilled to be partnering with our sister company Samuel Marshall Productions again in what will be our third collaboration. The film is extremely well crafted and we can’t wait to see Charlie put his own unique stamp on what promises to be a really exciting debut project.”
