Jacki Weaver in talks to play Bradley Cooper's mum

Animal Kingdom

Story by Jack Foley

JACKI Weaver looks set to play Bradley Cooper’s mum in David O Russell’s forthcoming romantic comedy The Silver Linings Playbook.

The Australian actress was nominated for an Academy Award earlier this year for her work in Animal Kingdom and is currently in negotiations to join the cast.

Cooper has already been joined by Jennifer Lawrence in the comedy, which finds the former playing a High School teacher who is institutionalized for depression and then released from the health facility determined to find the silver linings in his life.

He tries to win back his ex-wife but becomes involved with an eccentric neighbour (Lawrence) who has problems of her own.

Robert De Niro is also in the cast.

The film is an adaptation of Matthew Quick’s novel and is scheduled to start filming this autumn.

Since her Animal Kingdom nomination, Weaver has found herself in demand in Hollywood and recently completed the new Nicholas Stoller-Jason Segel comedy The Five-Year Engagement with Emily Blunt.

She is currently shooting Stoker, the Wentworth Miller-written drama starring Mia Wasikowska and Nicole Kidman.
