JAKE Gyllenhaal and Carey Mulligan are set to star in Wildlife, which marks the directorial debut from actor Paul Dano.

Based on a script that Dano co-penned himself with Zoe Kazan, which has been adapted from a novel by Richard Ford, the film follows a teenage boy who witnesses the decay of his parents’ marriage after their move to Montana.

Shooting is set to begin in November and will take place in Montana and Oklahoma.

Dano last worked with Kazan on the excellent indie comedy-drama Ruby Sparks.

Gyllenhaal is currently on another hot run of form following the likes of Everest and Nightcrawler. He will next appear in Tom Ford’s critically-acclaimed festival darling Nocturnal Animals, which is expected to be a prominent player in the forthcoming awards season.

Mulligan’s last big-screen appearance was in the 2015 drama Suffragette.
