James Badge Dale to play Erin Savin in Iron Man 3

The Pacific

Story by Jack Foley

JAMES Badge Dale has joined the cast of Iron Man 3 as a character named Eric Savin.

According to the Marvel comics, Savin is a lieutenant colonel in the US Army who is put in charge of Project: Ultra.

However, all does not go well for him and after he steps on a land mine, cybernetic surgery is performed on him, prompting him to be resurrected as the cyborg Coldblood.

Shooting on the Marvel release is due to commence this month under the direction of Shane Black and will see Robert Downey Jr. returning as billionaire Tony Stark.

Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle also reprise their existing roles, while Guy Pearce, Ben Kingsley and Rebecca Hall are also set to be among the newcomers.

Badge Dale shot to prominence with small screen roles in 24 and The Pacific before making his break into movies such as The Grey and Shame.

He will next appear in Robert Zemeckis’ Flight as well as World War Z alongside Brad Pitt and Disney’s The Lone Ranger with Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer.

Variety, which broke the news of the latest casting, also revealed that in addition to using the Eric Savin story from the comics, Iron Man 3 will also borrow elements from Warren Ellis’ six-issue Iron Man: Extremis, which focuses on the spread of a virus through nanotechnology.

Iron Man 3 is scheduled for release on May 3, 2013 in the US.
