James Bobin in talks for Alice in Wonderland sequel

Johnny Depp in Alice in Wonderland

Story by Jack Foley

JAMES Bobin, director of The Muppets, is reportedly in early talks to helm Disney’s Alice in Wonderland sequel.

Variety has reported the development, which could see the follow-up to Tim Burton’s box office giant gain more traction.

Linda Woolverton is already penning the script for the sequel, while Joe Roth, Suzanne Todd and Jennifer Todd would return as producers.

It is not yet known what direction the story would take or whether original stars Mia Wasikowska (as Alice) and Johnny Depp as (The Mad Hatter) will return.

But Disney is keen to see a second film given the success of the original, which went on to earn $1 billion worldwide and scored Oscars for art direction and costume design. A musical version for the stage is also being developed by Disney Theatrical Prods.

The sequel thus far has the working title of Into The Looking Glass.
