James Corden to play singer Paul Potts in new movie

NEWLY crowned Tony award-winning actor James Corden is to play former Britain’s Got Talent winner Paul Potts in a new film.

According to the BBC, Corden has signed a deal with producer Harvey Weinstein to portray the opera singer in a new film called One Chance.

Bristol-born Potts shot from Port Talbot obscurity to UK super stardom after winning the first series of the ITV show in 2007. He was a former Carphone Warehouse salesman but captured the nation’s hearts with his performance of Nessun Dorma.

Since then, the tenor has achieved world-wide fame is now reputed to be worth £6 million.

The film’s name is taken from Potts’ debut album. It will reportedly be directed by David Frankel (of The Devil Wears Prada) fame and will follow Potts’ rise to fame.

A spokesman for Corden told the BBC: “James will be working on an upcoming film with Harvey Weinstein.”

Corden, 33, rose to fame as Smithy in BBC comedy Gavin & Stacey, which he also co-wrote with Ruth Jones, and won his Tony earlier this week as best actor in the National Theatre’s Broadway transfer of One Man, Two Guvnors, beating the likes of Philip Seymour Hoffman, James Earl Jones, Frank Langella and John Lithgow.
