James Spader to play villain in Avengers: Age of Ultron

JAMES Spader has been cast as Ultron in Joss Whedon’s sequel to The Avengers.

Marvel announced the casting on Thursday (August 29, 2013) to a lot of people’s surprise.

Spader currently stars in NBC’s spy drama The Blacklist and recently appeared on the big screen in Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln (for which he won rave reviews). He is also best known for roles in Sex, Lies & Videotape and TV series Boston Legal, as well as The Office.

According to director Whedon, the sequel to Avengers Assemble will see the director “doing our own version of the origin story of Ultron”.

The latest announcement also confirmed that two new superheroes would take to the stage alongside Iron Man, Thor, Hulk and Captain America in the form of Quicksilver and Scarlett Witch.

Avengers: Age of Ultron is set for release on May 1, 2015.
